Homemade Apple Hand Pies
What could be better than homemade apple hand pies? My Pie Crust recipe is so versatile. I’ve used it for my Pecan Bites, Pumpkin Pie, and now this Homemade Apple Hand Pies. You can also use this crust recipe for fruit tarts. This hand pie is just the right size dessert after a nice meal.

Homemade Apple Hand Pies
Nice dessert. Flaky crust with sweet and tart apple filling.
Equipment
- baking sheet pan
- Saucepan
- Cooking spatula
Ingredients
- 1 batch of Pie Crust, see note for recipe
- 2 green apples, peeled, deseed, small cubed
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon zest
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons butter, cut into cubes
- 2 tablespoons cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- pinch of salt
Egg Wash
- 1 egg yolk
- splash of water
Instructions
- In a heated saucepan, add all the ingredients. Constantly stirring until thickened. Set aside to cool.
- Meantime, pre-heat the oven to 350ºF. Line a baking sheet pan with parchment paper.
- Dust a surface with flour, roll the dough in about 12" diameter. Use a 3-4" inch cookie cutter or lid to cut the dough into circles.
- Place a spoonful of filling in the middle of the dough. Pinch the edges to close. Line the hand pies into the prepared pan.
- Use a fork and press the edges. Place the hand pies in the fridge for 30 minutes.
- When ready, brush with egg wash, bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
