This dish is ideal for your Sunday meal prep. The longer these pork chops sit with the sauce, the better they taste. Usually, when I meal prep I’d like to have at least three types of dishes. And not all of them get consumed at once. It’s nice to have flavorful dishes that don’t taste old after a couple of days. This Sweet and Sour Pork recipe is perfect for those types of days.

Ingredients:

  • BONELESS CENTER CUT PORK CHOP – this is the perfect cut for sweet and sour pork
  • SAUCE – soy sauce, oyster sauce, apple cider vinegar, honey, brown sugar, and tomato paste
  • AROMATICS – garlic and yellow onion
  • VEGGIE – red bell pepper – option to have pineapple added
  • GREEN ONION – to finish off the dish

step by step

  • The first thing to do is season the pork with salt and pepper. Then coat them with cornstarch. This process helps to get a slightly crisp texture for the meat.
  • Make the sauce. Combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, apple cider vinegar, honey, brown sugar, and tomato paste. Mix until well combined and the sugar is dissolved.
  • Heat a nonstick skillet with oil. Start frying the pork, and cook until brown on both sides
  • Remove from the heat, and set them aside.
  • Use the same pan, add more oil if needed. Saute the onion until tender, add the garlic and continue sauteing until aromatic.
  • Add the bell pepper and cooked pork back into the pan, and stir to combine. Add the sauce, continue stirring, and simmer for 2 minutes or until the sauce thickened. Optional, add the pineapple.
  • Sprinkle with green onions. Serve with steamed rice.

Hi there! Nice to meet you. My name is Jen.

I’m a mom of 2 wonderful girls. I love to prepare and cook home-cooked meals. Cooking and planning your meals might sound like another chore added to your already long list of things to do. Believe me, I’ve been there. However, cooking more meals at home is worth all the effort.  After years of cooking for my family and teaching culinary classes, I can honestly say that I have more control over the quality of the ingredients I use. That means I’m eating a lot better. Eating healthy doesn’t have to be boring and you don’t have to eat the same thing repeatedly. There are ways we can do and naturally enhance the flavor of our food and enjoy home-cooked meals.
