I do This To Stop The Bloat

It’s about progress, not perfection!

Feeling a little sluggish after a Christmas dinner? It doesn’t have to be a big struggle to go back to your normal routine after the holidays. If you incorporate lots of whole natural foods into your everyday meals you’ll give what the body needs to thrive and not to be deprived. Some people say they prefer to blend all kinds of greens and fruits versus juicing them because they get all the fiber from the skin of the produce and juicing just press the juice and sugar out. For me, I enjoy both blending and juicing. Either way, I feel refreshed after drinking a nice green glass of wholesome goodness.

Simple clean meals every day is the key to better digestion. Digesting our foods requires the most energy than any other function in our body. Have you noticed feeling tired after eating a big meal? This certainly happens to me every time I eat a big meal and the wrong food combinations. Meat and potatoes might sound really good but starches and sugar can prevent the process of necessary acid from digesting the protein. I notice that when I eat a big dinner – my stomach feels very acidic the next morning. The slower the digestion process the longer this undigested food remains in the stomach and it harbors more harmful bacteria. This can contribute to sugar cravings, bloat, gas, fatigue, and bad nutrient absorption and intestinal disease.

When I know I needed a break from eating bad food, I start the day with a big glass of green cleansing smoothie. I use 2 big handfuls of greens like spinach and kale. Then I add foods that are high in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory like berries, celery, cucumber, ginger, and fruits like bananas to add a sweet taste. Sometimes I add pineapple to add more fiber and helps cleanse the body.

Here are my favorite green smoothie recipes:

Cook Kale:

1 cup spinach

1 cup kale

1 cup pineapple

1 orange, peeled and seeded

1 cup strawberries

1 banana

1 cup water

Combine all ingredients in a blender, blend until smooth. Add ice for a thicker consistency.

Refreshing Cleanse:

1 cup spinach

1 cup kale

1 cup pineapple

1 small cucumber

1 apple

1 banana

2 celery stalks

1-inch size ginger, peeled

1 cup water

A pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)

Combine all ingredients in a blender, blend until smooth. Add ice for a thicker consistency.

Beet and Berries for Beauty:

1 medium size beet – steamed

1 cup berries

1 apple

1 carrot

1-inch size fresh ginger

Combine all ingredients in a blender, blend until smooth. Add ice for a thicker consistency.

I enjoy juicing also as much as I enjoy blending!

Carrot with a Zing:

1 green apple

1 carrot

2 celery stalks

1-inch size fresh ginger

Place all ingredients in a juicer machine, and press to juice.

Don’t forget to drink plenty of water – at least half of your body weight in ounces. If you weigh 120lbs you’ll drink at least 60 ounces of water a day. Break a sweat – exercise is good for cleansing the body and releasing the toxic out.

Being aware of what we put in our body gives us the gateway to longevity. But remember, it’s about progress and not perfection if you’re just starting out to incorporate whole natural foods into your diet – it takes time to getting used to the taste of the earthy flavor of whole foods but the reward is well worth the effort. Once I start nourishing my body well  I notice that my cravings for junk foods disappear and my body asks for more whole natural foods. My energy level increases, I’m in a good mood, aches, and pain gradually diminish. Get your blender and juicer working. Cook more with fresh vegetables, sleep well, and relax!
