Tips And Tricks

.

  • Making a delicious pizza is a wonderful way to enjoy a meal. To start, choose a pre-made pizza crust or make it from scratch. Get my Homemade Pizz Dough Recipe or use a cauliflower crust for a healthier option. Next, spread a layer of your favorite tomato sauce or pesto on the crust.
  • For toppings, get creative with a variety of colorful veggies such as bell peppers, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, spinach, red onions, zucchini, and olives. You can also add some protein with ingredients like fried tofu, chickpeas, or plant-based sausage.
  • Finally, sprinkle some cheese – whether it’s traditional mozzarella or a dairy-free alternative on top. Bake in the oven until the crust is crispy and the cheese is melted. Once out of the oven, finish off your veggie pizza with fresh herbs like basil or parsley. A drizzle of olive oil, and a sprinkle of red pepper flakes for an extra kick.

  • If you’re making the pizza dough from scratch – get my Homemade Pizza Dough Recipe. Or use a store-bought dough. There are lots of options to choose from like cauliflower crust, gluten-free, or you can also make Stuffed Pepper Pizza.
  • Cheese: Shredded mozzarella, shredded cheddar, and Parmesan cheese. The choice is yours when adding cheese toppings to your pizza.
  • Store-bought pizza sauce: You can make the pizza sauce from scratch or sometimes I use spaghetti sauce flavored with roasted garlic, basil, or traditional.
  • Veggies: Choose veggies that are firm and don’t have too much liquid. I like bell peppers, red onion, broccoli, and sometimes I add olives. Saute the veggies until crisp-tender before adding to your pizza.
  • Italian Seasonings: It’s an Italian dish, after all, I feel the need to use Italian seasonings.
  • Salt and pepper: Always season your dish.

STEP-BY-STEP

  1. SAUTE THE VEGGIES

Slice the veggies into thin strips. Heat the oil in a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the veggies and saute until crisp-tender. Season with salt, ground pepper, and Italian Seasoning. Remove from the heat and set them aside.

  2. ROLL OUT THE DOUGH

Divide the dough into two equal portions. Roll out each portion into a pizza crust of your desired thickness. Fold the edges, gently lift and fold the outer edges of the dough towards the center, creating a border. You can pinch and crimp the edges to help them hold their shape while baking.

  3. BAKE

Spread a layer of your favorite tomato sauce or pizza sauce on the crust. Sometimes I use pesto sauce too. For the toppings, spread the sauteed veggies and sprinkle some Parmesan cheese. Then, top with the cheese. Bake in a preheated oven at 400ºF for about 15-18 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.

Frequently Asked Questions

.

HOW DO I PREVENT MY PIZZA FROM BECOMING SOGGY?

To prevent a soggy crust, consider pre-heating certain vegetables like mushrooms or spinach to remove excess moisture before adding them to the pizza. You can also sprinkle a thin layer of cheese on the dough before adding the sauce and toppings to create a barrier that helps keep the crust crisp.

CAN I MAKE A VEGAN VERSION OF VEGGIE PIZZA

Absolutely! To make a vegan veggie pizza, simply use dairy-free cheese or nutritional yeast as a cheese alternative. You can also experiment with plant-based proteins like tofu, tempeh, or vegan sausage as toppings to create a flavorful and satisfying vegan pizza option.

HOW TO STORE LEFTOVER PIZZA?

When storing veggie pizza in the refrigerator, it is best to consume it within 3-4 days for the best taste and texture. If you want to store it for a longer period, consider freezing the pizza slices. To freeze, wrap each slice individually in plastic wrap and then aluminum foil before placing them in a freezer-safe bag or container. Frozen pizza can last for up to 2-3 months. When ready to eat, simply reheat the pizza slices in the oven or toaster oven for a crispy crust and melty cheese.
