Equipment

  • Baking dish
  • Stockpot
  • Colander
  • Bowls

Ingredients

  • 1 large heat of cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 yellow onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
  • 3 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375ºF
  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the cabbage and cook for about 10 minutes until the leaves are tender. Drain and set aside to cool.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, cooked rice, onion, garlic, egg, tomato paste, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  • Carefully remove the leaves from the cabbage and trim the hard stem. Place a spoonful of the beef mixture in the center of each leaf and roll up tightly, tucking in the sides.
  • Place the stuffed cabbage rolls seam-side down in a large baking dish. Pour the tomato sauce and water over the rolls.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes until the cabbage is tender and the sauce is bubbly.
  • Make sure the filling is cooked through.
