Cuisine American
- 1 pound tender cut of beef or steak, like ribeye or New York strip
- 1 bell pepper, deseed, and cut into thin strips
- 1 onion,, sliced
- 2 tablespoon olive oil or neutral oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon red chili pepper flakes
PREPARE THE VEGETABLES: Use red and green bell peppers, or opt for just one color based on your preference. Remove the stems and seeds, then slice the peppers thinly. Cut the onion into thin slices as well.
FOR THE STEAK: Trim any excess fat or connective tissues from the steak, as these can become tough when cooked. Slice the steak into thin strips, ensuring you cut against the grain for maximum tenderness
COMBINE SPICES: In a small bowl, mix garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cumin, red chili pepper flakes, and salt. Divide the spice mixture into two equal portions.
COOK THE STEAK: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add oil. Season the steak strips with half of the spice mixture. Once the oil is hot, add the steak to the skillet and cook for about one minute on each side, or until the strips are golden brown. Remove the steak from the pan and set aside.
SAUTEED THE VEGGIES: Using the same skillet, add the onions and sauté until they become tender and translucent. Stir in the bell peppers along with the remaining spice mixture. Cook until the vegetables are crisp-tender
FINISH COOKING: Return the cooked steak to the skillet and heat through. Serve the Pepper Steak with steamed rice or warm tortillas. Consider adding a side of guacamole for an extra burst of flavor.
