Equipment

  • Medium saucepan with lid
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups chicken broth or water
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt, adjust to taste
  • ΒΌ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley or green onions, optional, for garnish

Instructions

  • PREP THE RICE: Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming sticky.
  • COOK THE RICE: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the minced garlic and saute for about 1 minute, or until fragrant and just starting to turn golden. Add the rinsed rice to the saucepan and stir to coat the rice with the garlic butter. Cook for another 1-2 minutes, allowing the rice to lightly toast. Pour in the chicken broth or water, add salt, and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a lid, and let it simmer for 15-18 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
  • SERVE: Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork, season with black pepper, and garnish with chopped parsley or green onion if desired. Serve warm alongside your main dish.
