Filipino Picadillo

Filipino dish made with ground beef, potatoes, carrot, tomato paste, or tomato sauce. Flavored with soy sauce and fish sauce with a hint of brown sugar.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large yellow or Yukon potato peeled, cube into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 medium carrot, peeled, cubed into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 pound lean ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1 cup green peas
  • 1/2 cup raisins

Instructions
 

  • Heat a skillet with oil, add the potato and carrot, cook until golden brown. Remove from the pan and set them aside.
  • Use the same skillet, add onion and garlic, saute until aromatic. Season with salt and pepper, stir to combine.
  • Add the ground beef, cook until no longer pink. Add the soy sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, and tomato paste, stir to combine. Simmer for 2 minutes, then add the potato and carrot back to the pan.
  • Add the green peas and raisins, stir to combine. Remove from the skillet and serve with steamed rice.
