Semi-Homemade Pasta Sauce

Jazzed up store-bought pasta sauce, sauteed in garlic and onion with soy sauce, Italian seasoning, and fresh basil leaves.

- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 yellow onion
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili pepper flakes
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 vine tomatoes, diced
- 1 1/2 cups shredded rotisserie chicken
- 24 oz. store-bought pasta sauce
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 8 oz. cooked pasta
- 1 cup fresh basil leaves, rough chopped
- 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
Heat a pot with oil. Add the onion, and cook for a minute or until tender.
Add the garlic, and continue sauteing until fragrant. Season with salt, red chili pepper flakes, Italian seasoning, and soy sauce, and stir to combine.
Add the diced tomatoes, chicken, and pasta sauce, rinse the jar with water and add it to the pot. Add brown sugar, and stir until the sugar is dissolved.
Cover, lower the heat, and simmer for 15 minutes. Add the pasta, and stir until the pasta is well coated with the sauce. Garnish with fresh basil, and sprinkle Parmesan cheese. Serve immediately.
